Ned's last thoughts involved his wanting to make things right with his wife Betty Brant.įor the longest time, it was believed that Ned Leeds was the original man behind the Hobgoblin costume. Ned was already dead, his throat having been slit by whoever captured him. Sensing the presence of smoke, Peter opens the door to find Ned Leeds tied to a chair. When he gets there, however, he's met with a sight that could have easily sent him over the edge. Peter returns to his hotel room, resenting his former intentions of giving up on his identity as Spider-Man. Unfortunately, this warning falls on entirely deaf ears. Despite knowing that they're on the same side, Wolverine implores Spider-Man to go back to New York and get Ned Leeds to safety. There, Peter encounters Wolverine, who instantly recognizes his scent. Jonah Jameson sending Peter Parker and reporter Ned Leeds to Berlin in order to look into a lead. This spirals into a string of murders in New York caused by Russian spies, with the curmudgeonly boss J. Wolverine #1 (by Jim Owsley and Mark Bright), the clawed Canuck searches for an old associate named Charlie, who hadn't been seen in years.
